Went out to Narrabeen area to see if we could
muster up some action. Took a look from the northern rocks to
see what was happening. Tide was low so we decided to try Collaroy
beach and see how it went and come back later when the tide
was high. Using mullet strips for bait, the action was very
slow with only two undersize fish taken in about 5 hours- a
small flattie(on mullet)and a perch like creature(on squid)
that looked like a cross between a rock cod and a brownish/yellow
bream. (ive never caught one before so dont know the name)
As the moon came up we expected the action
to hot up but just didnt happen. We left and had a look at the
northern end of Narrabeen and there were about 8 guys fishing
the spot where the water flows in to the mouth of the lake,
just off the beach. I expect they were hoping for a big Jew
or Monster Flattie to be chasing the mullet thru the entrance,
and probably where we should have fished.
Too many blokes at this spot so obviously they
knew something we didnt, we decided to fish around the quieter
waters on the lake. With mullet jumping in frenzied proportions
we gave it a go. With bells on the rods we had several tingles
on the lines but nothing to show for it. The only thing that
kept us interested were the contant acrobatics of these mullet
playing in front of us. Even tried a float with bread but no
takers.
Overall a disappointing trip, only the scenery
and fishing stories kept us interested. The moon was right,
the tide was right, maybe a little too cold and in the wrong
spot that night.Fishing is not always about catching, it was
a nice night and felt good to be doing something I enjoy. Left
at 2 am for a nice warm shower and a cold beer before bed. No
Soccer or Tennis to keep me up this time
